About Borjomi
Borjomi Gorge since the ancient times served as a Southern Gate for the country. On the sides of its narrow ravine lots of enemy forces were defeated. Fortresses and castles constructed on the hill-tops informed each-other of the approach of invaders. They created a complex alarm system– by making large fires on top of the hills to signal each hill-top fortress in tern. Two of these forts, strong buildings that witnessed the hard, hostile past and two medieval towers - are still erected on the hills in the surroundings of the town. They belonged to the feudal Lords of Borjomi Gorge – the Avalishvilis and are named after their famous owners – Petre and Gogia.
Climate
The climate in Borjimi is mild. It varies from continental sub-tropical to coastal sub-tropical. The resort is situated at 810-850m above the sea level and is surrounded by high hills. It has warm summers, mild snowy winters, pure and transparent air, medicinal water and most beautiful sceneries. Bakuriani is a ski-resort at 1700-2000 m above the sea level in the sub-tropical zone. The snow blanket remains for 4-5 months. The aroma of the coniferous trees, high ultra-violet radiation and other climatic factors create perfect conditions for treatment and recreation.
